The University of Calabria (UNICAL) is a public university which has the aim to enrich the cultural progress in the fields of human, economic and technological sciences. Established by law no. 442 of March 12, 1968, is located in Arcavacata di Rende (CS), Italy. UNICAL promotes scientific and educational excellence and it has always been distinguished for its special attention to the quality of innovation in research and education, internationalization and variety of study programs.
The Department of Mechanical, Energy, and Management Engineering – DIMEG was founded in 2012 by the extension of the Department of Mechanical Engineering with some new research groups. It has over a hundred staff members. The multidisciplinary nature of the academic fields allows covering all areas of industrial engineering.
DIMEG operates in the regional territory to promote the development in the field of process, product, and service innovation, as well as in the design, organization, and management of complex systems, investing in emerging sectors with a higher innovation level (Business Process Engineering, Sustainable Energy, Industry 4.0) and consolidating its leadership in traditional sectors, i.e. mechanical design, materials technologies, energy systems, industrial production systems, logistics and transport, health systems and services. To date, nine of the forty-one spin-off companies (approximately 22%) based in Calabria belong to DIMEG.
